Product Description

If you’re having trouble trying to determine whether the comforts of a comfort bike are more important to you than the efficiency of a road bike; get the best of both in an all-new women’s-specific Vital hybrid. It’s no secret: Women ride bikes for the same reasons guys do. We ride for that freedom found in the forest; that escape down a smooth path on a sunny day; the peace ushered in by an evening commute. And we, too, want the perfect bike that’ll take us there. Welcome to Devine Designs - our line of bikes that pays tribute to women riders. These aren’t men’s models painted in pastel. No, at Diamondback, we started from the ground up, considering every aspect of the female cyclist. The collection features bike geometries built for our smaller frames; colors that reflect our tastes in aesthetics; and overall models that speak to our practical notions of comfort and affordability. With Devine Designs, you’ll find the same devotion to technology and elegant craftsmanship that’s engineered into all of our Diamondbacks—in designs specifically tailored to you. We’re confident you’ll enjoy the ride: We worked hard to make it Devine. The Vital 1 combines the same relaxed contact point features as a comfort bike with the big smooth-rolling 700c wheels of a road bike. The heart of the bike is DB Hi-Ten Steel Hybrid geometry frame with formed tubes and a Hi-Ten steel fork. The 2013 Vital 1 is silver and comes in two sizes: WS (15"), WM (17"). An affordable no nonsense hybrid isn't rocket science and shouldn’t require giving up the farm to own. From the simple to the sophisticated, you’ll find the path, neighborhood, and around town bike you’re after in a comfort geometry Diamondback Vital 1.

5This bike is a great ride!
By Joanne
I was looking for a comfortable upright bike, and after spending about 100 hours researching bicycles online, and speaking with a bike salesman at our local department store (who was very helpful), I decided on getting one with the larger 700c, rather than the 26" mountain bike size tires to make peddling more efficient. I didn't want a road bike because the tires are too narrow and they go too fast for me, and I wanted to go just fast enough that I could see what I am coming up on in the road. These tires are about half way between a road bike and mountain bike in width and are pretty smooth with some tread, but they are not knobby. Basically, this bike is a cross between a road bike, mountain bike and comfort bike with 21 gear speeds. When I opened the box it came in, I didn't think I could put it together, but decided to just do one thing at a time, and after 2 days, I had it assembled. I had read other reviews of bicycle assemblies that only took 30 minutes, but I wonder how they ever got it done that quickly. I added a bike rack, tire pump and water bottle holder, so that increased the assembly time by a few hours (especially the rack). I also had trouble getting the brakes adjusted so they would be equal distance from each side of the tires. This bike has the push-button shifters, along with number indicators that let you know what sprocket the chain is on. The hand grips are molded to fit a hand, rather than just being cylindrical. It has shock absorbers for both the seat and the front fork. The ride is smooth, and fairly effortless. The second day I took it out (after not having ridden a bike for about 10 years), I rode 2 hours, and was pleasantly invigorated, but not exhausted. The seat is fairly comfortable, but could stand to be softer. It could use a gel or some other type of padded cover to really make it a comfortable ride. I have a softer seat, but I can't figure out how to get the one that came with it off the shaft. The handlebars are high enough that you don't have to bend over to ride it, saving my shoulder muscles, which was what usually made me tired riding my mountain bike. It's configured in a way that just makes it very comfortable to ride.I would have liked it if there were more color choices, but blue is the only color this bike comes in. It has some cute little decals on several places on the bike, so that adds some fun. I rode it to the post office today and a middle aged man told me it was a nice bike (which, of course, I already knew, but it was nice of him to notice!).After riding 4 times, I realized that the gears were slipping, so I took it in to my local bike shop today and had a tune-up done. I found out right off the bat that I had installed the front tire backwards, so the mechanic fixed that. He said the gears were not working correctly and fixed that, and the brakes were squeaking, so he adjusted them. When I rode it home (which was actually only about a block) following the tune-up, I couldn't believe how much better the ride was! I can hardly wait to go on a long ride to really appreciate what the tune-up did for my bike! So I would recommend either having a bike mechanic assemble your bike or have it tuned up following your own assembly.I bought the 15" model, which is the length of the seat rod from the peddles to the top of the painted part of the seat shaft. I am 5'3", and with the seat at the proper height for optimum peddling power, I cannot touch the ground while sitting on the seat when stopped. I have always had a women's model bike in my lifetime, and have used that space in front of the seat to stand when I am stopped, so I didn't want to get a men's model and have to think about how to get off the thing, since I am 57 years old, and not really up for learning a new bicycle skill!I am very pleased with this bike, and those 100 hours of research have paid off! I plan to spend many hours on this machine and hopefully lose about 30 lbs!

55'4 Woman
By T. Young
I have struggled with bikes for years because of the bars that go across the frame. Being 5'4, the bar hits me where it hurts. Not with this bike though. It's perfect and I am able to sit totally upright so the extra bonus is no backache. The only problem is they sent it without a kickstand.

1Review for the above bike
By London
I really wanted this bike to be a great bike but it has several design defects that need to be addressed. My feet kept hitting the front wheel because the pedals and front wheels are about an inch apart hence no room for your feet. The brakes didn't work well due to being "on" even when not being applied. I could go on but in short I had to return it because at over $300s per bike those issues are ridiculous and unacceptable... Thanks goodness Amazon is such an honest company that one can do good business with and not get cheated for defective products. Today, I received a refund in full and they didn't charge me for the shipping. Amazon gets five stars!
