By Captainbob
First of all, I have been riding 2 wheeled Recumbent bikes for about 13 years, and ride about 100+ miles a week, even though I am a very senior citizen. My Rover was due to be trucked to my home tomorrow, but I couldn't wait so I drive to the trucking Depot at Atlanta Airport to pick it up. I drove up in my Toyota Matrix, and I had already checked the box dimensions that UtahTrike packed it in, so I knew it would stick out the back of my car about a foot, but otherwise it fit well. We loaded it my car, strapped the back deck down and off I went. When I got home, I had it out of the box in about 5 minutes. It was totally assembled and packed very well.About the seat, I love the higher seat position. I had toyed with the idea of getting another model of Trike, with a much lower seat, and am I glad I got the Rover instead. It is so easy to get in and out of, and you don't feel like you have to dive bomb yourself into the seat and crawl out of it. I played with the seat position, and found that the easiest way to do it, if you have to move it any distance , is to just pull the seat up and off and relocate it. It doesn't want to slide very easily. Two things I have to get used to, leaning into the turns, and stopping pedaling when shifting. The neat thing, after using derailleur for years, is to pull up to a stop in a high gear, and downshift while you are sitting there waiting for the light to change. I tried some fairly sharp turns, and the Rover seems pretty stable. I noticed that if you really jam on the brakes hard, the back wheel will lift, because the disk brakes can really grab, so modulating the brakes, and practice emergency braking and also sharp turning while leaning, is probably a good thing to do if this is your first trike. I did some of the hills that I normally do in the park next to my home, and the low gear on the 8 speed was fine. The shifting is very smooth, and so far, I am very happy with the Sturmey Archer 8 speed hub. I would like to get the adjustment procedure for it, if I have to remove the rear wheel to fix a flat. The Rover seems like a lot of fun so far, it fits inside my Toyota Matrix with nothing to do but fold down the passenger front seat and lower the seat backrest on the Rover. It also looks like it would go on my Saris 2 bike mount, but it is so easy to put it inside the Matrix, that , I will probably not bother with the rack. I do have to carry it in my front door sideways, as it is just a bit too wide to roll through the door.Riding this on my local 9 mile bike path has attracted a great deal of attention, and people are always asking me if they can sit in the seat to see how comfortable it is. It is almost as fast as my 2 wheel Rans Tailwind bike which I have had for years, and much more stable. You can ride along, and take time to look around, instead of having to focus on the pavement ahead of you. Once you ride a Trike, you will be hooked. As of December, of 2010 I have almost 1700 miles on the Rover with zero problems.....

I bought my TerraTrike Rover 8 a bit over a month ago.The short version:I love it, and would buy it again~! It is exactly as advertisedThe long version:Reasons why I chose the TerraTrike Rover 8 instead of another;Seat Height - most 'tadpole' style trikes (2 wheels in front, one in back) have low seating, as in 8 to 9 inches off the ground. The Rover's seat is 18.5 inches off the ground. Much easier to get into and out of.Price - I wished to stay at the lower end of the price range, but still get a great trike with a LIFETIME warrenty.Weight limit - I am a big guy, and wanted to buy a trike I wouldn't have to worry about killing - the weight limit for the Rover is 400lbs.TerraTrike Customer Service is great! Whether by phone, email, or their forum, they are quick to reply, and are very, very helpful with any questions you may have.Other folks that have the Rover call it the pickup truck of trikes. Why? Because it is solid, can haul a lot of weight, and is very dependable~! Yup, it's *only* got eight speeds, but the internal hub is rock solid and combined with the single chain-ring in front, makes for a simple - no-need-to-think-about ride! Just sit down in your rolling lawn-chair and start pedaling. If you're pedaling too hard, simply twist the shifter down a gear, if you want to go faster, twist the shifter up a gear. Another plus of the internal hub is you can shift while not moving~! I for one tend to forget to down-shift when coming to a stop, not a problem with the Rover, you can drop from any gear right down to the lowest gear while sitting still...The seat really does feel like a comfortable lawn chair. You can also change the tilt of the chair back. While it's true that you can easily break the Rover down for traveling, I have no problem simply putting the Rover in the back of my Tucson. Many People think of the Rover as a great "proof of concept" trike - to see if they will really ride a Trike before spending a lot of $$$. Others say it's a great starter Trike. For me, It's just a great trike~! Simple to ride, comfortable, easy to get out of, and FUN~!UPDATE 03/16/12It's been over a year now, and a bit over 650 miles later...I am still LOVING my Rover! No muss, no fuss. I have done a few mods, and went to 'Big Apple' tires for even more comfort. I had my right hip replaced last June, and was riding my Rover as part of my PT some 4-5 weeks later. I honestly cannot say too many good things about the Rover, I check the air pressure before each ride, and then go riding. I'm not saying the Rover did it alone, but I have dropped 40lbs since buying it, and am hoping to continue to lose weight.I have many health issues, and my Doctors are very pleased with my riding, their first question is how many miles have you ridden since your last visit, and my heart Doctor has now changed me to once per year visits, and he states it's because of my riding. Still ever so comfortable, and while I lust after newer and more spendy trikes, it's because of an "I want" and not due to any need. This trike just works flawlessly for me. I do hope to buy another for my lovely wife, so we can ride together! This summer I will be riding the "GAP", some 125 odd miles while pulling a trailer - am very excited as I still cannot walk a mile. This is the best purchase I have ever made.

I bought a Rover8 and took it back to the shop to trade it in on a TerraTrike Cruiser within a week. Not that there is anything wrong with the Rover....ingress and egress are a breeze due to the high seat, it has decent speed, it is supremely comfy and the direct steering is great for sharp low-speed turns. For the recreational, relaxed rider it is a super buy. However, I am in my mid-30s and wanted something that would cause lots less discomfort on my backside (and elsewhere) than my regular upright bike while still providing the speed and stability I crave. The Rover took care of the former but fell flat on the latter. The problem is that this design isn't meant for those who truly like to fly. The high center of gravity and upright seating combine to make it very 'twitchy' at higher speeds. I even lifted the inside wheel numerous times on medium-speed turns during my first few rides. Exciting, yes, but in the wrong way!So if you are more SUV than Sports Car, the Rover will be just fine. But if you desire something that provides stability and sharpness at higher speeds, go for the Path, Cruiser, Tour or Zoomer. Its worth the extra money.
