Bad experience made good by Amazon

I purchased 2 of these bikes for my wife and I based on the price. I found "you get what you pay for". The first two arrived in good condition, after assembly my wife's bike wouldn't change gears and the twist grips became stripped and fell apart. The front brakes were difficult to get into and stay in adjustment. We returned it for replacement. In the meantime (about 2 days) my shifters went out of adjustment and wouldn't change gears, the twist gear changer for the front derailleur stopped working. I returned the second bike. By now my wife's second bike arrived, the box looked like it had been dropped from a tall building then dragged behind the delivery truck. The box was literally held together with shipping tape, and it was torn open to expose that the bikes neck was bent(I can't imagine the force needed to cause this steel to bend). If I had gotten to the door before UPS rang my bell and ran away I never would have accepted this package. I returned this bike also. Finally we decided to give up and just ask for a refund. Amazon couldn't have been more helpful, we received a refund in a very short time. Thanks Amazon for making a difficult and frustrating situation pleasant in the end. If you want a cheap bike and you have the skill and the time to do all your own adjustments daily then this is the bike for you, otherwise defiantly upgrade.This is not a good bike at a low price but a cheap bike at a cheap price. I hope the other buyers who gave this bike a good rating have better luck than I did.

Good Bike For The Price

I bought this bike for fitness purposes. I have had some previous experience tinkering with bikes I have had before. This bike came partially assembled as the major components were put together. I had to put the front wheel, handlebar, pedals, and seat on the main frame. The bike, after assembled, needed some adjustments to the brakes and gears. I fully expected this to be the case. The bike rides very nice and is very comfortable. I mention the need for adjustment because all bikes require this when assembled. When you buy a bike already assembled, those adjustments are already done. Unfortunately, the directions are not that clear on making those adjustments. Also, the packaging is not adequate for shipping. The box was heavily damaged but the was okay.

great bike for price.

My 14 YOS has been riding this bike for a month now and he loves it. Assembly was easy, only the brakes took a little bit of time to figure out. And he had his spokes adjusted at the local bike shop for $5 - the wheels were a little out of alignment due to shipping. That would be the only negative, the box was pretty beat up when the bike arrived.

Very happy with bike

I purchased this bike for a low cost test to see if I would like road biking. The over quality of the bike is quite good and has been , I feel, put together very well. I purchased the bike for under 300 so I can't really complain. I have so far ridden about 3-4 hundred miles on the bike right out of the box. Only thing I added were clipless pedals to fit my mtn shoes. I'll probably up grade down the road, but will keep this bike for my commuter. I read the Vilano site and some folks are actually using the bike for their first tri events and I think the bike would fit that very nicley. I put the bike together in about 1 hour. I have a background in bikes so it was not terribly difficult. I am very happy with the bike and would recomend the bike to anyone interested in a low cost above average quality road bike.

Vilano Road Bike

Just getting into road cycling and did not want to spend $1000. Had bike for two weeks and so far so good. Like the shimano shifters. Poor quality tires though. Had a bead blow out after 30 miles. But no big deal as the overall price is great. Came with a decent vader split seat. Overall more impressive than a GMC PRO Denali that we purchased for my wife at $100 more than the Vilano.

Vilano with p.o.s. crankset

This was my first road bike I purchased online, and also my first road bike that was newer (as in not from the 80's). It shipped just fine and arrived on time, and was also in perfect shape upon arrival. Assembly was a breeze, maybe 20-30 minutes tops, and was ready to ride immediately. However now, after a few months after purchase, I have noticed some small problems and a slightly larger one. The gear shifters have never worked right, I have used the tuning screws to fine tune them so I could fully utilize their capabilities but to no avail. I am without the highest gear on my crank set, and without my highest two on my rear shifters too. Not that big of a deal though cause I can simply replace the shimano gear shifters for a decent price. The big problem I have with my bike is the crank set. It is as if it is loose, but it is not. It is already broken, worn through threading and shot a bearing. Strange that this would happen after maybe 100 miles on the bike. I now have to pay to get it replaced, which can be expensive if I want a nice reliable crank set.But for the price, would I advise someone to purchase this bike, maybe. If you can find an old schwinn at a garage sale and fix it up, do that instead. But if you want a newer bike, with a newer look, and is very light, get this. Over all I give it a 3 star rating, because of the gear shifters and the crank set. Had there been no issue with either of them I would have given it 5 stars without a second thought or moment of hesitation.

Outstanding Collapsable Bike

I'm not normally someone that gives items 5's but this bike deserves it. The bike is absolutely perfect for riding around town, all I had to buy for it was the front/rear lights to be safer on the roads (it does come with front/rear reflectors). It folds up easily. Perfect for putting it in the car for short rides, and storing it in a closet. Rides smooth, shifts well. Great deal for the price. Pay attention to how it is folded into the storage bag when you get it, 'cause you'll have to practice folding it in to the storage bag to get the zipper to close the first couple times, but it does fit. Great buy!

Kettler Verso Cologne 7 Speed Folding Bike

I wanted a folding bike but didn't want to invest a lot of money. This bike was within my price range and the 2 reviews on Amazon looked good. This must be a new product of Kettler because there was little information about it when I was researching...but what I could find it all sounded great. I was comparing the Schwinn Hinge and lower model Dahon Boardwalk bikes also. After seeing mixed reviews on the Schwinn and Dahon bikes I decided to try the Kettler Verso.This bike retails for $360, Amazon has it for $344 but I found it at Walmart.com for $266 and 97 cent shipping. Even after tax the bike was cheaper via Walmart plus if I didn't like the bike I knew it would be very easy for me to take it to the nearest Walmart to return and I wouldn't have to be out of pocket any shipping. This was a very low risk try out for me and I'm happy to say that it's a keeper!I love this bike - it arrived packed in a very sturdy box (in reading other bike reviews people talked of folding bikes being damaged in shipment) My bike arrived packed very well padded in all the right places. I cut all the plastic ties that secured the padding and unfolded the bike easily. After inflating the tires and tightening the brackets for the levers that locked the seat into place the bike was ready to go. Very easy!The only negatives I would have to say that the paperwork included in the box was for thier generic bike assembly instructions that didn't apply to this particular model. The problem was easily solved by going to their website and printing out manual for my bike. [...]The other item I want to comment on is once I wanted to fold the bike again I wasn't sure what to do - lucky for me I searched youtube and the company posted a video the day before showing exactly what I needed to know :)[...]This bike also comes with a storage bag - if you are looking for a new folding bike this one is well made, easy to use and priced right. :)

Great bike for an older rider

I am an older man who has had 8 leg surgeries & has zero cartiledgein my knees. I cannot even do long walking anymore for the painbut wanted to find a bike, reasonable, that would be SEVERAL THINGS.EZ to ride & comfortable. Allow for me to remain seated at stops.Would be well made. Would not look dorky. Was reasonably priced.I spent three weeks comparing dozens of models before ordering.This bike is all that. It has a 17 1/2in canted frame, dropped lower,so its nestled lower between those 26in fat tires. I am 5'9". I canstay seated at all times. Seat is wide, well padded & heavy springs.The aluminum rims are well made and have alot of SS steel spokes. Frameis heavy aluminum alloy & all other parts are either SS steel, aluminumor chrome. This bike will not rust.It is NOT one of those flimsy, light, small rimmed, narrow tires, verycheaply made, but fancy painted bikes that fall apart quickly. It will last.This bike is not a trail bike. Cmon now. Anyone smart knows a trail bikeis NOT A COMFORT CRUISER BIKE. And, no bike under $450 should be used fortrail riding anyway. If I were young I donot think I would pay less than $600really if I was going to put a bike through the tough riding on trails.This bike is reasonable priced. It's quality level is not a $500+ bike. BUT,it looks more like a $350 price range bike than the price charged here. Its acasual riding smooth city street or a city paved bike trail kinda riding bicycle.The gearing is great and ez. I can cruise sitting down on a residential streetat 25mph for a one hour ride. If I get a run on it I can pull a semi steep hillup to 275 feet long in climb before I need it to crown over. So I pick in choosemy routes. I have been riding it 3 to 4 times a week for 5 months. Mostly 16 to20 city blocks a ride. But 6 times I rode the bike for about 90 minutes and was notoverwhelmed.I bought the 4-color silver/grey/white/black one. Very handsome. Its more manlylooking than the other colors. The double center frame tubing give the bike a "hybrid"male-female kinda look. I get ppl call out to me frequently "nice bike" when I amriding. Have rode it 3 times up into the edge of several hundred ppl at summer streetdances with live bands. People like the bike and compliment me about it. And thecanted frame allows me to casually step thru without damaging my ego. (I got crushedin a car wreck) So I gave the rating 4 stars because its a very nice 4 star qualitybike. MAYBE THOUGH, given this very low price, maybe it deserves 4 stars. I LOVE IT.It is a little difficult to assemble but not terribly so. And if it has a flaw it isthe aluminum screws that using ALLEN wrench attach the handle bars. Torque them toomuch and you will strip them EZ. I took one to Lowes and bought steel replacementscheaply and that was an ez fix to that worry.If you want an ez to ride casual retro looker - this one is really a bargain.Shhhhh, don't tell anyone you paid less than $250 cause they will think youwent to a bike shop and paid $400. LOL (oh - I used my friends acct to order it)

Okay Bike - Not Easy To Assemble

First off, you get what you pay for. My wife and I bought Men's and Women's Victory Touring Cruiser Bikes for occasional riding for exercise - not any serious cycling. For that purpose, these bikes were great. If you want a thorough bike which will handle well off road and will be using it a ton, I would not recommend these bikes.Secondly, these bikes were not easy for me to put together. Probably took me 3 hours for the first bike, and once I got the hang of it, 2 hours for the second. Glad I had my own tools too, because the tools they provide are cheap and shotty. The instructions that came with both bikes did NOT help. I tried refering to them, but they were not an easy read unless you're an engineer. Also, it seems like the bike company had a single manual for all their bikes, and just ship that manual with each bike, which was frustrating. For example, these are Crusier bikes with wheel fenders, but the instruction manual didn't specifically cover Cruiser bikes, so there were no section on the fenders. I had to look up the image on Amazon to figure out that I had the front wheel turned the wrong way, which meant the fender didn't fit correctly and when I peddled, my feet would sometimes hit the tire when I turned. And configuring the brakes was probably the most difficult part because of the many moving parts and again, the instruction manual was pretty useless. Finally figured it out after messing with each component and reverse engineering their purpose.I'm just glad I'm done putting them together and my wife and I can enjoy them.

Buy a better bike, not even worth the great price

This is the first amazon review I am writing, and felt compelled to do so because I purchased this bike despite the fact that it had no previous reviews. At the time I figured, "what the heck, how bad can it be?"From the beginning I figured it wouldnt be the best of bikes, seeing as how it was under $140, but the deal was good enough for me not to care, especially for the kind of use I wanted it for, recreational, non-professional.What type of rider am I? - Was a 5 hour a day, every day, rider for about 6 years. - Previously owned only GT bikes in the $500 range (4 different ones), so my expectations are moderate, not $2000 for a bike big - Needed bike for rides of 10 miles or less on urban roads and sidewalks, never tested off roadThat being said this is how this Huffy bike fares up: PROS - The Price, at under $140 this bike is extremely inexpensive for its size and type CONS - The seat/saddle has very low quality cushion that is practically non-existent. Feels like sitting on hard plastic that hits all the wrong areas. I received bruises after a small one hour ride - The bike makes lots of noise during the ride, it is quite embarrassing that I can be heard coming from a block away with a brand new bike as if it was a clunker. - The brake pads are not a good fit to the rims (too tight). The rims hit the brake pads at different junctures causing noise and creating friction that makes it more difficult to ride and pedal. - The gear mechanism is poor at best. Gears shift spontaneously. When entering a gear change the change is not smooth. Gear changes are loud and sound and feel like the bike is about to collapse on itself - The shock system is very stiff, specifically the front fork shocks. Feels as if they did not properly grease them before mounting them. They make noise on both contraction and extension - The grips are very uncomfortable to hold beyond 10 minutes. They are made out of some cheap plastic or very hard rubber - The shifter knobs are made of cheap plastic and are very hard to move up and down for shifting - For having all cheap parts, the bike is extremely heavyIn summation, in order to make this bike at all comfortable to ride for more than 10 minutes I would have to at least spend on a new seat, new brake pads, new grips, and maybe a new rear rim, or gear system. That would defeat the entire purpose of having paid $140 for a bike. As such, unless you only want this bike for 10 minute rides, do not waste your time or money. Go ahead and put in the extra couple hundred bucks and buy a quality bike in the $400+ range, its the better thing to do.AL

Don't waste your money

I bought this bike for my 15 year son for his birthday. I agree with the Reviewer Al... a few things I will add are:The peddle snapped completely (Less than 3 months of owning the bike)My son constantly complained about the brakes/and or chain.The tires wore down really (Less than 3 months of owning the bike)Save your money

Worst bike I've ever bought. Seat wouldn't stay the bar turned out of place no matter how tight you made it. I almost broke my leg with this bike and I have the scar to prove it.
