Neat Inexpensive Concept

I'll start this review with the negatives. The bike did comealmost fully assembled BUT ... the brakes were reversed, the headset was assembled incorrectly and if I didn't know much about bikes the instructions were vague.Now for the good. The folding frame works great.I have a bike that can go off road and that gets small enough to fit in a raft or canoe. I upgraded the crank and added a front derailuer and shifter so that I could have an 18 speed. That cost another $30.If you want a neat little bike to bring into places you might not otherwise be able to this is a cheap way to go. The frame is good enough that you could upgrade it. If you want a serious mountain bike this isn't for you. If you want a dedicated road bike, this isn't for you. If you want a bike that can do a little of everything, pack small, and doesn't cost much, this is a great bike.

Make sure you've set enough cash aside to get the bike and immediately get a tune up on it. Two spokes on the front wheel where terribly bent and I need to replace both inner tubes after the first day. Other than that, it's a great bike for apartment living and the modest bike rider. If you want a serious mountain bike that is portable, this isn't it. The hinge won't support any high performance off road demands, mostly geared towards city living. I'm not a fan of the shifter, but it functions smoothly. I just prefer triggers.

This bike has a super cool frame, though it doesn't really fit into a mid-size car trunk (Acura TL) since the handle bar sticks up...only way to get around that is to install a quick release wheel (~$100), where you can pop off the front wheel (since that would allow you to bend the handle bars enough to close the trunk).As for assembly, I would recommend going to a bike shop (~$50). I tried for an hour and did a really poor job but the bike shop i ultimately gave it to made it sturdy and well built.Also, the parts are super cheap, but only marginally worse than a something you would get for the same price at Walmart or Target.Overall, the convenience of the bike makes it awesome...it can fit into the backseat of a car, closet, you can take it work and stick it in a corner, etc. AND it is a full size mountain bike as opposed to other common folding bikes which are dinky little things.
