Good bike for the money

First, here are some stats:The bike weighs 37 poundsThe seatpost height is 25 inchesThe maximum (safe) pedal to seat height is 31.5 inches (which means if your inseam is 33" or taller, don't get this bike)First things first--you SHOULD/NEED to get this bike professionally tuned/built when it arrives if you have NO experience working on bikes [.............]. I have worked in a bike shop for many years, so I know my way around a bike, and if you want this bike to work like a bike should, you need someone who knows what they're doing to tune/build it. (If you're wondering why I didn't get a bike at my old shop, it's because I moved across the country--don't work in a shop anymore).Anyway, I have plenty of high-dollar bikes hanging in my garage, but I needed an upright ride because my back is going out on me. If you can tune/build/true your own bike or have a buddy who will do it for you, this is a great deal. Otherwise, you'll probably be better off going to your local bike shop and buying a bottom of the line brand name cruiser that has been properly built.This bike was double-boxed and in pretty decent shape when it arrived with FedEx. There was a large paint gouge on the rear down-tube, but only superficial. The brake/derailleur cables were frayed because they didn't put cable fairings on the end. The wheels were rideable but out-of-true, and if you don't get them trued you will incur permanent damage and end up paying a whole lot more for new wheels.All the bolts were there, except one for the rear fender (I just used a zip tie to secure it). It does not have holes in the downtubes to attach a rear rack, so you'll have to gerry-rig it. If I keep this bike, I'll throw a new rear derailleur on, but the one it came with will get you where you need to go. In my opinion this a great bike for the money. If you have a bike mechanic friend, buy him a six pack and you're set. If you are on your own, I'd suggest getting a cheap but well-put together bike at your local bike shop (NOT Target or Walmart--they don't have mechanics putting their bikes together).My one BIG complaint about this bike is the size. I'm 6'1", and I figured it would be semi-small since it's one-size-fits-all, but it's actually quite a petite bike. I'm stretching the seat-tube past the recommended limit until I can buy a longer one. You don't want to pay [.............] for knee surgery to save [.............] on a bike, so if you're 5'11" or taller, find something cheap that comes in a large size.Like I said, having worked in a shop, the frame and the parts are more or less on par with a low-end brand name cruiser bike, it's the labor that makes the price difference.

Do not recommend this cycle

The following were the problems:1. Bent fender - poor packaging2. Sratches in paint in several areas3. Three nuts were missing4. The front wheel hub had lateral play - cannot be fixedPlanning to return cycle if amazon accepts it.

Color was green not the black I ordered.It came scratched and wheels were out of "tru" like box had been dropped hard several times, brakes were out of adjustment and can not get adjsuted without paying at a bike shop.Speed of arrival was fantastic.

great bike for the price, but cheap tires and cheap seat

i've been riding this bike 60 miles a week, but the tires are made of nylon and made me go through inner tubes like water. i bought Ribmo tires and haven't had a problem since. the front tire didn't come with a rim strip, so i don't know how that happened. definitely better than buying competitive bikes at thousands of dollars. just get rid of the ridiculous thin nylon tires!

Though I get many compliments for the looks of my bike, there are still some things that I just can't fix. One main thing is the seat post. This piece of junk gave me so much frustration while riding it. The person that engineered this seat post should get his/her job and go back to school. Every time I tightly screws my seat in, it will temporarily stay on for a few minutes. Once I start to ride it for about four miles, the seat will wiggle and eventually wiggle its way lose. No matter how hard I screw it in, the attachment will come lose. Beside this issue, everything else is find.

not worth the money, or any money

I ride a cheap ($250) Vilano road bike that I got on Amazon to and from work every day. It's starting to show premature age but still hanging in like a champ so i thought i would buy another "cheap" bike for my bother. I got this one, the Tour De France Stage One Jersey Bike, thinking that even though it's cheaper and a little heavier it would still be an ok beater bike.Turns out it's actually completely useless. The tires that come on it are made of very soft material and don't have a hard lip on the edge. Good tires have this and it's usually reinforcement by a metal cable inside the rubber. As soon as I inflated the rear tire it bubbled over the rim in one spot so bad the wheel couldn't turn through the brake assembly. Not to be out done the front tire kept its shape but its tube deflated after one day of sitting motionless.I figured the tires and tubes would by garbage so I was only disappointed they didn't last a month or at least a couple weeks. I ordered some Gator Skin tires and Avenir tubes since I use that combination on my bike and it's been great for months. This brings the cost of this bike from $220 to $320 before it has even moved. I changed the front tire and tube yesterday and was trying to work the nut off the back one today when the front tube loudly blew out.... you know, form the stress of sitting properly inflated and motionless for one night. I suspect this is actually what happened to the first tube and I just wasn't there to see it.Maybe the rim has some sharp defect and I can get it replaced, maybe i installed the tire poorly and the next tube will hold, maybe somehow this thing will actually ride down a street one day. However the tires aren't even the only trash parts on this thing and it's already cost enough money and time that while "cheap never is" isn't always true, I can tell you it is with this thing.Don't buy this lump of metal unless you envision it without any tires, with rims that need inspection and finishing, and with assorted clips and pads that need immediate replacement and it still seems like a deal to you. Because that's what you're probably going to have to do before it's road worthy.

mongoose detour best bike ever

What makes this the best bike? combines both rugged and sophistication into a unique riding experience. I just installed two lumina 620 for night riding and it feels like riding a car. The composite brake systems makes it extremely safe and reliable specialy if caught in a storm. The only thing this bike doesn't deliver is a catchy euro-name or a stealthy italian design.

Everything I need.

The all aluminum, full suspension frame makes this a fantasic off road bike. And with 21 gears, it will easily take you anywhere you need it to go. I have the bike and it's by far, the best one I've owned. And it also has a front disk brake which I have found very useful. It brakes easier, faster, and is more controlled too. Yes it can be a bit heavy because off the full suspension frame, but it will take any shocks, bumps, and drops you can through at it.

What I wanted, but with a LOT of effort

Within the 2 week window of shipping and delivery, Amazon waited until the very LAST minute to ship it. So I got it on time, but it could have been earlier.It was more assembled than I thought it would be, which was great. But the instructions were shit. And only the front tire was inflated.The biggest problem was the handle bars, the were partially assembled and done WRONG. And done in a way that I'll have to damage a screw in order to fix it.Overall, it was an okay purchase, but Amazon really could have done better.

Needed work

After assembling the bike (the directions were terrible), it had a whole host of problems. It wouldn't go through all the gears, the front tire was slightly warped, and the brakes needed adjustment. I took it to a local bike shop to do a full tune-up for $45, and now it seems to be fine. I should NOT have had to do that though. I wish Amazon would refund me the tune-up amount.
