Product Description

At home in some of the wettest, muddiest, gnarliest terrain known to mankind, we’ve figured out a thing or two about what it takes to make a mean cyclocross bike: one that sheds mud, ports easy and crushes any root or rock in its path. We understand that a light and stiff platform—via BB30—equates to more acceleration and control while out of the saddle. We also know that a flatter top tube for easy portage and the right geometry are essential to winning any race. Component pairing comes in hot and proper with a Shimano Sora build including front and rear derailleur and dual control 9spd brake lever/shifters which are linked to Tektro CR510 canti’s to stop ya at the drop of a dime. The FSA Gossamer Cross crankset is standard as far as cross cranks are concerned and the BB30 technology offers a light weight and exceptionally stiff pedaling platform. For the 46t and 36t double set. Equation CX cross rims are light and stiff and look amazing with white spokes laced to sealed cartridge bearing hubs. Kenda Small Block 8 700x32c tires create a grippy equation for any situation. DBR drop bars and a DBR 3D forged stem offer precise and accurate steering while the DBR Performance Micro Adjust alloy Post (27.2mm) supports a WTB Volt Race saddle for maximum comfort with race friendly size and weight in mind. The 2013 Steilacoom CCX is red and comes in four sizes: 50cm, 53cm, 56cm, 59cm. I ordered this bike with the intention of giving it as a gift.UPS delivered the box in pristine condition.When I opened the box, and lifted the bike out, to check it out, the first thing I saw, in the bottom of the box, was a broken plastic part, that belonged on the derailleur.I personally don't feel that I have any obligation to find a bike repair shop, to have them repair this "new" bike, at Dahon's expense.I notified amazon.com immediately, indicating I wanted to return the bike because a part of the gearing was in the bottom of the box, and broken, and amazon.com wrote back that I should repackage the bike, and UPS would pick it up the next business day.I did as asked; and UPS picked it up the next business day.This is the first item I have ever ordered from Dahon. And it will be the last. With Quality Control like the above - I didn't want to take a chance on any more Dahon bikes.

Good beginners bike

The bike is great for beginners. Cheap for a BMX and also light. The only bad thing is the seat is plastic so it hurts when you sit or when you land a trick your butt is gonna hit it and its gonna hurt after awhile.

BS pedals

i got the bike it was ok... until the pedal completely stripped the right crank arm. i go to pedal up a hill and the pedal just snapped through the threads. i took it to a bike shop and they said that the pedals were completly bs when put with the crank. they only had 5 threads while the crank had 12. thus the pedals weren't even halfway in the crank making this an unsatisfying and dangerous product.

Cheap construction, but capable bike

Well, this bike looks much better from far away than it does up close. But it reminded me so much of the Pee Wee's Big Adventure bike that I sprung for it anyway to use as my main commuter bike anyway, sight unseen.Overall, I still like it, and it hasn't broken down on me or thrown me over the handlebars yet after 3 weeks of riding it ~7 miles to work each day.The frame is nice, but most of the parts look and feel cheap. Everything is adjustable, and just about everything needed adjustment to get the brakes and shifters working smoothly. And then everything needed to be tightened and adjusted again after a week as things got stretched and settled. So if you like tweaking bolts and screws, this is a good bike for you.The front suspension doesn't travel very smoothly and groans slightly compared to other forks I've used. The generator-powered LED lights are nice, but flimsy, and the wiring is kind of exposed and vulnerable. I've already had the wiring cut and had to bind it back together with electrical tape. I have an extra set of battery-powered flashing safety LEDs that I use in addition to the bike lights, since I don't really trust them to stay working for all that long. But they are bright enough to light the way for now. The rear lamp has a capacitor or something, so it stays lit for a few minutes even after you stop moving, which is a considerate touch for stop-n-go traffic.It is quite light, and does look nice from far away. The mudflaps do a good job keeping my cargo and me relatively clean and dry while biking in wet and muddy conditions.Overall I'm content with it, though I do find myself hesitating to go down steep hills on it, and riding the brakes a little more than I should, but this might be because I was moving from a mountain bike to a hybrid bike. If I had to do it again, I would probably just get a cheaper (but better build quality) Schwinn mountain bike and fit it with the pannier rack, fenders, and lights separately. But this bike-in-a-box is a nice integrated package, and I'm left wondering slightly whether the version that costs $50 more for "better shifters" also includes nicer parts. But alas, these bikes aren't available to look at in stores before you mail-order them.

Instruction are poorly written with missing steps for assembly.

The frame is very nice, the derailler required multiple adjustments, the seat post and handle bars required retightening several times and I am sure at this point in time that I would not purchase another bicycle from this manufacturer. Bolts were also omitted as the inspection at the Chinese factory was surely up to their normal standards? $314 should have been $225...Best regards, Steve in Fox Chase, Philadelphia, PA 19111

Powerful and Fast

You'll need to take a good hour or two setting it up and most importantly adjusting the shifter and brakes. The kickstand did drag like others say, but I just loosened it a and realigned. Good Bike, Great Value!

In short, this model (and similar Prodeco offerings) is the best value E-bike on the market. Though great, it is not perfect and I would give it 4.5 stars if possible. Here is a rundown on my thoughts over the last 6 months.VALUE: A+ (Compare to any other Ebike to see for yourself! A knowledgeable friend suggested that the Faraday Ebike was the best bike on the market. In fact, the Faraday is 3x the price, has a motor with half the power, and a battery with half the capacity. The gear hub and saddle on the Faraday are nicer but they better be because you will be pedaling a lot more.)PERFORMANCE: A- (Motorized power is strong and flawless. Even up steep inclines it can hold a nice speed. However, pedaling is a chore with the wide and heavy tires. Twist throttle is super intuitive and natural to use. Use the motor in any combination with pedaling you chose, all-none-or anywhere in between. Braking power is very good. Shocks and derailleur are not the greatest)DESIGN: B- (Lots to love about this bike, but some small but significant oversights... Terrible brake pad alignment. I took this to a local bike store and not even the tech could get the pads to stop rubbing the discs on the front tire. I may go through a lot of brake pads over the life of the bike :( Kickstand is poorly secured and impossible to adjust, it always rattles and rubs. Also the rack over the rear wheel is not able to support additional weight, so no panniers.)FINISH/AETHETICS: A (highest quality materials. Nice clean Lines, but looks better in black)CUSTOMER SERVICE: A+ (2 year Warranty is the best available. I recently had an issue with the Key/ignition. Called the company and immediately spoke with a real human. I shipped them back the entire battery for a fix. They had it back to me in a week, no charge.Overall: A- (Some small but significant design flaws keep this from getting an A+. Hopefully these will be addressed in the 2013 models)
