By Skoro
I'd been away from bikes for a decade but came to the decision that cycling is just too good a method of getting and staying physically fit, especially for those of us who are too old for jogging. In doing my research on likely bikes, I narrowed it down to a K2 Easy Street, Schwinn Midmoor and this Schwinn Suburban. I wasn't looking for a long distance road bike or a mountain trail bike. I just wanted a decent quality comfortable cruiser for casual exercise and pleasure riding. When I compared the three models up close, my first impression was to go with the Midmoor. But after sitting on them, the Midmoor just didn't fit me as well as the Suburban. The K2 was nice, but I preferred the brakes on the Suburban. Now, after riding it for a couple of weeks, I have no regrets or second thoughts. I was a little concerned about the twist-grip shifting, as I (being 60 years old) was accustomed to the Shimano frame-mounted lever shifters from the ancient past. No worries. The twist grip system gives quick, accurate, positive shifts. The riding position suits me very well as it's mostly upright which is what an old guy likes. The suspension on the front fork and seat stem makes a noticeable difference in smoothing the ride. It's light yet sturdy. Handles easily and steers accurately.Bottom line: this bike is a good choice for anyone wanting an affordable, comfortable machine for casual riding.

By Silence Dogood
UPDATE: This is kind of a stark shift in my opinion of this bike. Since the time of writing the review I have left intact below, I have moved to a very Bike-heavy city, with flats and moderate hills, and a commuting situation that sees me doing a MINIMUM of 5 miles each and every day, with extra trips, etc putting me anywhere from 50-100 miles a week. Now, I have no choice but to demote my rating of this bike, and caution all of my friends interested in buying bikes away from it...This bike, as I'm learning more and more from bike experts at shops around town, like so many Schwinns, is not truly built to last! It is truly sad, as most of the things I had praised this bike on from early on have disintegrated...my gears continually fall out of tune with the veracity of a $20 guitar, my brakes are deteriorating, my (flimsy plastic) pedal has busted, the seatpost bracket on mine was designed in such a way that it no longer holds my seat without wobbling, no matter HOW tight I make it, etc, etc, etc...I hate to say it, but if you're looking for a reliable, LONG LASTING commuter's bike that you can put mile after mile on, it would be wise to look elsewhere.ORIGINAL 5-star REVIEW (posted late 2011):I got this bike at the local Academy Sports & Outdoors brand new for about $150. Since then, I've put about 100-200 miles on it on back country roads and park paths, and have absolutely no complaints.Key Features:-Surprisingly comfortable stock seat-smooth, easy shifters-great ergonomic handgrips-very solid, sturdy construction-excellent brakes-looks greatI'm not even close to being a regular bike reviewer, but I'm happy to answer any questions anyone has about this bike, just leave me a comment!
