Maybe you should look for alternatives

Technically, this bike might be OK: It's relatively robust, it has Shimano dérailleur and, as you might assume, it has some of Polaris' brand name. Only that the latter, the Polaris affiliation, does not apply. You'll see a lot of Polaris stickers on the bike, but the manufacturer, as described on the box, is some Chinese company. Overall, the quality level is really not satisfying. I'd say, "Spend more and get something that offers better quality." On the other side, if you're a beginner searching for a weekender bike, this is a very good and cost-effective bike.

GREAT BIKE!

this bike is sooooo good! it didnt come in red/black like i wanted but it still looks sick with the blue/white color to it. the suspension is great when going over huge rocks and going down steep hills. its a very silent bike and the shimano tourney gearing system is so easy and looks awesome on the bike. everyday i wake up and want to go back out and ride it!

Good Quality Components on a Sturdy Folding Frame

This is my second Montague Folding Bike purchase. About a year ago, I bought the Paratrooper Pro Model, 20" for my son and was impressed with the strong frame, no flex or looseness when locked in the unfolded riding position. This bike came perfectly tuned. We needed only to unpack, unfold, air the tires and adjust to my son's 6' 3" height. My recently purchased X70 unpacked with components, wheels tuned, but the cassette shiftier did need some simple adjusting. His bike has been completely trouble free for a year to date of hard use. The only change is the handle bar stem extender my son added to raise the handle bar for a more comfortable riding position. The X70, 20" frame is identical to the Paratrooper Pro but with sporty red/black/white paint and component upgrades. It offers a 10 speed rear cassette for 30 gearing combinations while the Pro is a 9 speed rear for 27 gear. The X70 is a couple of pounds lighter than the Pro but both are a pound or two heaver than their advertised weights of 27 lbs and 29 lbs. This regrettable, misleading advertising is common to most bikes companies of which I'm aware.I've been an avid bike rider for over 50 years. The Montague X70 is 5th mountain bike I've owned. It exceeds my previous mountain bikes with the smoothest shifting I've experienced and what seems to be the sturdiest frame yet in spite of the folding ability. If you are looking for a folding mountain bike to handle hard climbs and rough surfaces, I think you will be very favorably impressed with the Montague models. My impression is the the Pro components may be somewhat stronger than X70 perhaps making the Pro Paratrooper a better choice for exceptionally strong riders and the X70 for older, not quite so serious riders as myself.wd

Very Sturdy

I purchased the X70 over a couple years ago from Amazon and have used extensively over that period of time. The collapsible frame has proven to be very sturdy as I use it off road mountain biking regularly. I did shear off the shaft for the folding shaft this last fall and I have been improvising and must replace. It is a 3/8 " approx. diameter shaft and is the weak point of the bike. Jarring and bouncing has taken it's toll. The shaft should probably be a higher quality metal, such as titanium to prevent this. I also purchased the storage bag for the bike and it has proved to be very durable and accomplishes exactly what I hoped to. I can collapse the bike when finished using, put inside the vinyl storage bag and store out of site in the house easily. This is an excellent solution for small apartments, or very limited space. All in all very happy with the purchase as a rule !

A good bike for the price

This bike has a 6061 aircraft quality aluminum frame with aluminum alloy for forks and a alloy steel rear triangle. Easy assembly with basic hand tools within 30 minutes. you will need a tire pump since the tires are only partially filled at the factory. The shifters needed some adjustment to get in the correct gear which was easy. The bike features quick release hubs, (front and rear), a quick release seat post and thumb styles shifters. The bike has a very smooth ride compared to a traditional hard frame and could be even smoother if the tires were switched to comfort style tires but that would limit the bike to paved surfaces. My son who is more of an avid rider that myself said this bike was better than his Diamondback Outlook. Overall, if you are looking for an entry to mid level bike that is better than the run of the mill department store stuff. this might be your bike especially during the August clearance sale when they change year models/colors. The free shipping and no sales tax makes it even more attractive.

Great bike and I can prove it!!!!!!

I bought 2004 model (same but red/white color). It was on clearance at Amazon for $229.00 total. I used it on the bike lane beside my house with the kids. With the gas sky rocketing I decided to carpool, so started to bike 1 1/2 each way to the subway station to meet my ride and lock my bike with heavy duty cable. There are about 50 to 100 bikes chained to serires of posts. The bike was great. Shifts were smooth, the dual suspension makes you feel that you are riding on air. After couple month my bike was stolen. From all the bike, some were better than mine with less thicker cable, the ..... choose my bike. I was dsapointed, espacially I was enjoying the ride and the smootheness of the bike. Now I'm using my old bike which no one will take even if I left it unlocked. I bought a new Master Lock Street Cuff and a very thick chain (both with warranties to replace the bike if the lock was broken).Now, I'm waiting for my birthday in August and hoping the bike will go on sale till then.I strongly recommend the bike. I will buy one in august.

Exactly as advertised

This bicycle is exactly as advertised. Assembly took about 30 minutes and I was up and running. The rear gears needed some slight adjusting, then everything worked great. For the price, this is a good bicycle. The one drawback is that it is quite heavy. Other than that I have no complaints.
