5Great Bike
By steve hupper
Well first off I would like to note that the 2 previous poor reviews were from people who don't own and did not buy this bike. One does not like Schwinn (does not own bike) and the other was complaining about the lack of info in the ad, and then stated he wouldn't buy it anyway (does not own bike). Well, I don't give either review any weight.I could find little info on this bike via the web. I was worried about the size as I need a taller bike being 6'1.5" with a 34" inseam. I don't have a money tree so I couldn't spend a lot on a bike. I was tempted to buy the GMC Denali. I went to WalMart and looked at one and found that it looked good and was a very reasonable price. I compared it to the Schwinn Varsity and found the the Schwinn looked to be a better quality but was a bit small for me. When I saw the Phocus I couldn't find a size anywhere. So I downloaded a photo of the Varsity and superimposed the photo of the Varsity over the one of the Phocus. Not perfect, but it showed the Phocus was taller by a couple of inches, in theory this would make it just right. The bike comes with many upgraded parts as compared to the low end Schwinn's and most of the department store bikes so I took a chance and ordered it. Free shipping got it to my residence is 5 days (ordered on a Sunday arrived on Thursday). Double boxed, the Schwinn box inside a second heavier box. After unpacking took about 15 minutes to assemble and another 30 minutes or so to adjust and check over. Only needed an allen wrench, a phillips screw driver and a small adjustable wrench, not hard but YMMV.Very nice looking bike, looks and feels much better than the lower end bikes. I was able to find the original price was $420.00, so it wasn't cheap, although I assume it's a cheap bike to those who buy bikes costing a thousand or more. The size is spot on for me (34" inseam, with shoes 34.5, if your inseam is less than 32" be careful.measurements;seat tube, from the base(center of crank)to the top of seat post: 23.5", 59.7cmseat tube, from the base(center of crank)to the center of top top tube: 21.5", 54.6cmI will note that the upward slop of the top tube makes the seat post measurement a bit odd as the top bar is lower at the back than the front, similar to a mountain bike but not as drastic. If the top tube was straight it would measure at 23", 58.4cm (center to center)top tube from center to center: 21.5", 54.6cmThe stand over height varies due to the upward slope of the curved top tube, this results in 3 separate measurements;rear: 31.75", 80.6cmcenter: 32.25", 81.9cmfront: 33", 83cmWeight is 26.5 lbs.The shifters are a bit weird I'll update after I get used to them. With the lack of info on this bike I believe it was a short production, now discontinued item. I will write to Schwinn and post a follow-up.I'm happy with my purchase and hope you find this review helpful.

5Schwinn Phocus
By N. Wood
I run a small scale bike shop out of my garage, so I know bikes. I know what works and what fails. I am not fabulously wealthy, and I do not compete in cycling events on par with the pros, but at least I refuse to come in dead last. This almost happened to me at my first cycling event this past fall and I vowed to get some gears so I could try keeping up a bit more, and get passed a bit less. But those carbon frames will always have the advantage. So I started looking for something in my annual budget of $300. After reading all of the reviews of the bikes in this range I decided on the Phocus as the best candidate. Luckily a local big box sports store had the bike in stock, but at a higher price. Still I got to check it out and test most of the components for myself. I was not disappointed, they felt great. And the aluminum frame is light weight. I was happy to see that the spokes used are steel, not that weak aluminum that other local shops insist is stronger. I can't wait to give this bike a real road test.

4IMPORTANT!!! VERY IMPORTANT!
By thisissebas
Let me start by saying this is a very beautiful road bike. Don't be intimidated by the fact that you need to assemble yourself. it states that there "Necessary Assembling" but it really just putting the front wheel, the handle bar and the pedals. everything else is already assembled so its not really a mission to build. MY MAIN REASON why I'm writing this review is to give you a piece of DIRECT ADVICE as a person who just recently purchased one, received it on saturday and went for my first ride this morning to work.VERY IMPORTANT!!!! i would suggest to also look into purchasing a new crankset. Invest the $50 extra dollars and buy it ASAP. i went for my first ride this morning and had to cop me back home walking with my pedal and crank in my hand. It was a bummer but i don't blame the manufacturer or distributors. its just that for what the bike is worth, you should probably invest into getting the crankset. i was at a red light, prepared to take off when it changed to green and i ended up almost falling off my bike. when i picked up the piece form the floor i noticed that it want even Aluminum, OR Alloy, but some compact relatively cheap metal-like material actually looked more like ceramic coated in a very veryyy thin alloy coating. However the bike is great but i strongly suggest investing in an ALUMINUM CRANKSET. thank god this happened taking off at a light, had this happened while pedaling full speed... i could've been seriously injured... or maybe worse.PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, I DO RECOMMEND THIS BIKE, AND I WAM GIVING IT A GOOD REVIEW, just thought i should share this because i was lucky this time, but who knows if this happens to you if you will run with the same luck.I suggest you look up Shimano cranksets and see what better fits you budget. they stat at $40 and work their way up... to $300. I am on omy way out to the bike shop to get a crankset myself literally right now, because i want to have a great crankset and get the most out of this bike which i am so excited to have.Thank you and have a great day and PLEASE.... DO NOT GET TURNED OFF ABOUT PURCHASING THIS PRODUCT, if i hard to i would purchase again, obviously proceeding to order a crankset as well now that i know this.ENJOY & BE SAFE.

4so in love with my new bike
By Carolina Caro
i wanted to buy a vintage bike and here it is! :) ... i received it on time, it was well packaged, and a friend of mine put it together. assembly required.... if you don't know how to assembly this bike, i recommend to bring it into a bike store. it won't cost more than $80, at least here in vancouver bc.... i used it for the 1st time last monday. it rides ok, speeds worked fine, breaks are also great and keep in mind that this is a city bike, better to ride on asphalt or maybe on grass. colours are so pretty as well! i loved the combination of blues: tiffany blue and navy one. very pretty! i bought a basket that matched its style and i would recommend to buy a gel-cover-bike-seat, it could be hard on you if you ride for long periods of time; however, it's perfect for all ages and i highly recommend it! :)

Diamondback 2013 Response Mountain Bike with 26-Inch Wheels (Red, 14-Inch/X-Small)

Product Description

Whether you are new to the trails or a seasoned singletrack rider, the Response series offers uncompromised performance without compromising your bank account. Compared to a full-suspension mountain bike, a hardtail is better suited to several situations, such as riding to class, buffed-out trails, or just cruising around the neighborhood. Combining the perfect blend of hardtail performance with rugged utility, the Diamondback Response is a value oriented build ready for any new rider or common-sense lover. At the heart of each Response is our rugged Diamondback 6061-T6 aluminum frame with formed top and down tubes providing strength and style with clean lines. A machined headtube adds strength and style while forged drop outs with a replaceable hanger add the finer touches. The components provide more proof of our commitment to providing you with the most appropriate package and value for your money. A SR Suntour XCT 100mm travel fork soaks up bumps large and small, without being overkill. Also on deck is a set of Tektro Alloy Linear Pull brakes which are a light and simple solution to stopping your rig on a dime. 32h Weinmann MX260R Double wall rims laced to 32h MX260H alloy hubs combine to make a durable and long lasting wheelset. The tough alloy arm crank set (24/32/42t) is a good match for the Shimano TX50 front derailleur, the Shimano Altus 7spd rear derailleur and Shimano HG20 7spd Cassette (12-28t). This combo provides more than enough gearing options to get you where you want to go when you want to go there. Diamondbacks signature alloy SL318s stem and riser bar create the perfect cockpit while the SL309p Alloy Micro Adjust 30.9mm post and DB low profile All Mountain saddle ensure that you can pedal all day long. The Response is red and is available in XS (14"), SM (16"), MD (18"), LG (20"), XL (22"). If a solid, reliable, and affordable all-purpose mountain bike is what you’re after; a Response is the obvious choice.

5Good bike
By Wes
Shifts good, quiet, looks good, good quality, and just to let you know it comes with out a kick stand which was good for me because most kick stands rattle over rough surfaces.I use this bike for riding rough back country roads, and it does well.

5Great bike!
By Corey C.
The instructions are confusing as they cover a multitude of models. Written instructions refer to the illustrations and the illustrations are quite minimal, sub-par in my opinion. Fortunately, I am mechanically inclined so I could muddle through. The bike, however, is fantasic! Looks sharp, rides well, handles all kinds of terran beautifully, including dirt, sand, grass, roots, ruts and muck. The seat feels hard and unforgiving, though, so I purchased a more comfortable one for about $20. I have never mountain biked before, but I took this one out on the trails last weekend, and as far as I can tell, this bike appears to be a good one.

3You get what you pay for
By Stuart Oltman
I'm a long time motorcycle technician and tech editor of a national motorcycle publication. I haven't owned a bicycle in a long time, but I know a quality two wheeler when I see one - and when I don't. With this bicycle, I don't. Is it serviceable? Yes. But for how long, I couldn't predict. The bike is shipped with the seat, handlebar, and front wheel not installed. You must install these parts as well as others, but the manual covers two other models with only passing reference to parts of this bike that are similar. The wheels both have a lot of axial runout. The front wheel bearings were over tightened and turned very roughly. Regreasing and readjustment cured that, but it revealed what has to be the lowest quality bearings I've ever seen in any application. The bearing adjustment locknut was frozen on one end of the axle, so all adjustment was done from the other side. The slot for the axle in the fork bottoms was deeper on one fork than the other. This caused the wheel to be cocked in the forks and prevented brake adjustment. The importer is sending me a new fork, though I suspect I'll find the same issue - lack of quality control. I offset the axle in the fork to center the wheel, and all seems well. But the fitment is a quick release type, so a hard bump could shift it back and cause brakes to bind. On initial test ride, the chain kept jumping off the sprockets - first on the front, then the rear. Adjustment from scratch was required, with very poor instructions that really didn't apply to this particular model. But it works. Fenders are the flimsiest plastic things I've ever seen, and no instructions whatsoever for installing the front one. They both flop around like crazy while riding. All in all? A low grade Chinese made product that will provide the casual user with exercise and local transportation, but don't plan on riding any marathons. Considering that similar designs with higher quality sell for $750 or more, this bike is probably priced about where it belongs.

4good bike overall
By BlackKnight
Personally, the instructions were more or less worthless. But assembly wasn't too hard to figure out by yourself (but then again, I'm an engineer...) - took me about an hour to put together. Also, it doesn't come with all the tools you need, but most people will have a crescent wrench lying around, so it's no big deal. The only problem I've had so far is that the gear selector cable became loose after a day...I put it back to where it was and haven't had any problems with it since. Also, it seems that only half the gears actually work; I find myself using only the even gears so that I don't have to listen to the constant clicking while it attempts to engage. It was also easy to replace the quick release parts with nuts and bolts I got from home depot. I highly recommend doing this for anyone using this bike in high-theft areas such as college campuses.

5polaris 26" bike
By Douglas J. Venable
I have had my bike one month now and am pleased with it. I'm 73 and haven't ridden a bike in years and it took a little getting used to. I do plan getting a pad for the seat because it isn't soft enough for me. Doug

5Great starter bike
By Luis Rodrigues
If your looking to get into a great solid fixed gear road bike look no further. This is a great bike for only 200 bucks. Got shipped super fast. Packaged very nice in the box. No scratches or holes or anything missing. Bike was easy to put together ( only have to attach like the pedals and seat and front wheel. Took about 20 min. As far as the ride quality. It's really smooth, no problems what's so ever. Great adjustable brakes no rubbing on the Rim what's so ever. Very similar to the vilano bikes ( I'm guessing it's pretty much the same set up). So don't have any fears on buying this bike.

1Broken crank case
By JJ Biker
When I assembled this bike, there was a looseness between the frontward and backward tension, leaving a null zone in the spin. Shortly thereafter, the crank case snapped, and I had to replace the bottom bracket because no other parts were compatible. Other than that, the bike is made from mostly cheap parts. The back wheel wore through quickly, the seat is hard, and the interior band was punctured by the spokes, piercing the tubes. I've rebuilt this bike for about as much as a quality bike would have cost anyway.

4production fixie?
By shortwing
Its kind of a contradiction. But whatever. Its a decent bike for a fair price, probably the best price to be found, although, you have to wonder why they even cost as much as they do, they are so simple. Must be the premium Chinese engineering,.

2OK Quality For The Price
By Cipher
I did an alarmingly large amount of research before settling on this bicycle. It's rather amusing when you realize I am the first person to review this bicycle. What swayed me? What sways anyone? The price, that's what.Well, that and every other bike sold on here seems to have half its reviews complain about all the problems people had with it, while the other half talk about how they put it together and took right off on it. To put it bluntly: Buying a bicycle . . . ANY bicycle . . . online is a complete and total crapshoot. The difference with this one is that it was a CHEAP crapshoot. I'm glad I went with it.I have had Huffy bikes in the past. I like them because they don't try to be something they aren't. They're cheap bikes that get the job done. This one is no different. If anything, it's the best Huffy I've had yet. This bike's kind of the best of both worlds. It's not a full-on mountain bike, nor a one-speed cruiser. You get a little of both, here. The suspension makes for a comfortable ride but can take some sizable jolts. The run-of-the-mill gears (3 on the left, 7 on the right) gives plenty of variety without being overwhelming. I will say that I almost never touch the left gears, leaving them in 2 pretty much permanently. One of the drawbacks of this bike (and any bike, really) is the stock seat. It feels like sitting on a pair of baseballs. I'm already well on my way to getting a comfier seat.As far as shipping is concerned . . . Well, it wasn't too bad. There were a couple of scrapes on the right gear selector, but the bike was otherwise unscathed. Putting the bike together was Huffy-simple. Most of it is pre-assembled and remaining assembly was relatively simple with the instructions provided. HOWEVER . . .A problem I noted time and again with other prospective bicycles was poor alignment and/or assembly of components out of the box. This seems true across the board, and this bike is no different. I think (general) we get used to going to a department store, picking out a bike, and having it pretty well fixed up when we roll it out to the parking lot. It seems like they don't come out of the box like that. Because of that, I will say here and now that if you (or a good friend) are not mechanically inclined, and/or willing to buy a couple extra tools, keep letting the department stores do it for you.The rear brake was tight enough that it wouldn't spring back properly when the brake handle was released. The front brake was mostly UNassembled, and what little WAS assembled, was assembled WRONG. The derailleurs needed a fair amount of tweaking. Lastly, the front wheel was so far out of true that spinning it by hand, the wheel would stop when it reached the point furthest out of true. Any one of these issues could have easily left a beginner scratching his/her head. Now that the bike's gremlins have been worked out, I'm left with a remarkably decent product. I've rode about a dozen care-free miles on it thus far. All initial problems aside, I am very happy with my purchase. With a price of just over $100 you really can't go wrong. Get it knowing you are going to have to do some tweaking before you go riding, but then enjoy the incredible deal this bike provides you.UPDATE: 7/23/11After one or two hundred miles I am about ready to chuck this bike out to the curb. I've had increasing problems with the gears and gear shift mechanism. I have now had the gear indicator "sucked" into the casing and have to "feel" and count what gear I'm in. This is after a LOT of tinkering with the derailleurs to try to get things right. At this point the bike is still useable but I don't know for how much longer. Maybe I just got a lemon, but I can't help wondering if I should have found something at a higher price point. I will be looking for a new, higher quality bike now. This one's a "winter beater" now.

5Good Bike
By Kevin Tighe
I originally purchased this bike because of the price and it had good reviews for bikes under $150. The first bike I received had some damages which Amazon happily took back and sent me another one overnight. The assembly is really easy as most of the bike is already put together. Con: I did have to fix the unbalanced tires on the second bike by adjusting the spokes which took about 30 minutes. If you are a little mechanically inclined this is a good bike to have. I ride this bike everyday for about 1-2 hours and have no major complaints about buying it. Overall this is a good bike for the price.

3Huffy Bike

Happy with the bike, the only thing I was not happy with was that when it arrived and I opened it, it had a few scratches here and there, which is not a good thing, given it was a new bike.
